CONTACT: Christmas 1976
The season so far has been one of mixed fortunes for the Bank. Having been knocked out of both cup competitions
by the League leaders and cup finalists the team has had no alternatives but to concentrate their attention on the League.
Thanks
to the Football pontoon the Bank were able to purchase a new playing strip for the start of the season. The new strip failed to inspire
the players for the first match of the season and the Bank crashed to a heavy home defeat. Since that first defeat, however, the Bank
have progressed steadily up the League table and at last Stephen Griffin's pre-season training sessions are paying their dividends!
After
starting the season as centre forward Malcolm Glenn moved back to his usual position as central defender and immediately found the
way to goal easier, having already scored six times so far.
Although basically the same team that finished some way down the
League last season, the players have found new enthusiasm for the game, with Stephen Griffin putting in an outstanding display almost
every game. The defence has played extremely well this year, often playing matches under extreme pressure and Malcolm Glenn has made
a New Year's resolution not to give any more penalties away if Andy Rowe promises to slim and play in the team's new shorts (size
38).

After
a disastrous start to the season the team began to find their way with pleasing results against some of the top teams in the league.
This was probably due to the fact that the team became more settled and confident in their approach to these games as the season progressed.
Pre-season training helped the team in more important games, when players found that they were able to pace themselves throughout
the game, unlike the previous season, when players found they were unable to keep pace in the opening matches. Although most players
found training a benefit, Mike Jones still preferred his usual seven pints before a match.
The team were knocked out of the two
Cup competitions in the early rounds, and although this may sound disappointing they were in fact knocked out by the eventual winners.
The team are convinced that if John Hall had come out of retirement earlier, results would have been different and instead of finishing
fourth in the league we would have finished last.
The defence have continued to play their part all season and have conceded
an average of only 1.7 goals per game, but sadly the forward line have been unable to apply the finishing touches to some excellent
approach work. Steve Griffin has had a magnificent season for the team, playing in the heart of the defence alongside 'Chopper' Glenn.
Malcolm Glenn has in fact done little to earn his nickname as he and Andy Rowe have only received ten cautions between them - so far.
Since my last article in 'Contact' I am pleased to report that now Andy Rowe - with the help of an hour girdle - can in fact fit into
the team shorts.
