Transfer of Solihull Mortgages - 1937
The Bank's General Manager (J P Hilton, left) hands over a cheque on January 12th 1937 for £173,751 - 2s. - 10d. to Solihull Urban District Council's Accountant (G H Budd) to purchase the greater part of the Council's mortgage book. The amount of the cheque was recorded in the caption to the original photograph and refers to the first of two tranches of mortgages transferred (see below). The second transfer (£4,721 - 12s. - 4d.) brought the total amount to £178,472 - 15s. - 2d. A newspaper report referred to the 453 mortgages included in the first transfer - an additional 13 mortgages were transferred in the second group. The newspaper article stated that the handover occurred at the Solihull Council offices and also present were G W Hill (from Birmingham's Town Clerk's Department) and C H Cook, Clerk to Solihull Council.
